Built in 1603 (Keicho 8) by Ieyasu Tokugawa. It is also the stage for the 15th Yoshinobu’s repatriation of the Taisei Hokan. In 1994 (Heisei 6), it was registered as a World Cultural Heritage as one of the components of “Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto”. The city of Kyoto is soliciting a “World Heritage Nijo Castle Bite Castle Owner Fund” and is proceeding with major repairs since the castle was built.
